Mr. Anupam Mittal, CEO, Shaadi.com

The year was 1997, Mr. Mittal, an MBA in Oprerations and Strategic Management from the Boston College, USA, came across a traditional match-maker and was intrigued by the business model giving less choice to the people and having geographical constraints. To further its goal, Shaadi.com began working with the MSN network of Internet services in 2002. Based on the success of its early banner advertising, Shaadi.com set up a channel partnership with MSN in January 2006.
As Mr. Anupam Mittal says “To me, entrepreneurship is about possibilities; it is about seeing what may be and believing it enough to commit yourself to making it a reality.
Online Matrimony is believed to have 50 percent growth over the next 2 years.

Nice post Arun! Just what was required. Not too long. Brief enough to hold the attention and yet deliver the required information

Nice stuff!
I have something to say. Actually two not one:
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw was behind Shaadi.com (yeah she funded it).
Shaadi.com is also into the social networking arena. They are one of the most struggling companies trying to survive. They seem to be messed up with the site’s theme. At first it was a dating site, and now a social networking site. And also as a matter of fact I should also mention that they very recently(a few months back) opened up their signups to public. Before that, it was paid!!! They were offering paid service even the existance of big players!!! Were to gutsy and it paid off. Before they could even tell people that they were changing the theme of the site from dating to SN, many small indian players too entered the scene. And worse they even got funded $7 Million (Sequioa Capital). Another worse fact for them: Sequioa is the same VC firm that funded one of their competitors - MingleBox.com. Thats lots of masala like a bollywood film.
Still guessing which site I am talking about? It’s Fropper.com
