Indra Nooyi: Pepsico CEO

She dons the leading role in Pepsico which is one of the 500 biggest companies in the world. Her hard work, dedication and management skills helped increase the income of the company twice when compared to 2006. Thats why she became CEO from a Pepsico chief financing officer with an income of 153 crores/ year. She is one of the most influential women from around the world.
She was born in 1955 October 28 at chennai. Incidentally, this is also Bill Gates’ birthday! She studied in Madras Christian College and her pet name is Babli. Her Husband, Raj Nooyi, is a business consultant and they have 2 children. It is said she is a very charismatic personality with a very clear voice.
She faced many hurdles in the initial phase when she was in America. For her livelihood, she worked as a part time receptionist between midnight and 5′O clock in the morning. She had a great passion for working, collecting ads for her college magazine in her college life.
She says that her first management teacher was her mom. She used to compete with her sister for a piece of chocolate for questions like “What will you do if you were to become a prime minister?” and “how will you change the world?” which were posed by her mom.
She believes in being responsible rather than depending on luck. This was a key thing which was taught by her mother.
The principles which she believes are:
1. Discover something new every minute.
2. Work is everything is and ultimate in life. So, try to do things in a very different way which is the stepping stone for success.
Indrani says “If I were given a chance to jump back into the past, I would definitely confront Sunita Narayan(Chief of Centre for Science and Environment)”
This is in connection to the public outcry over spurious substance in Pepsi which later had an adverse impact on the company.
Interesting Fact:
She was rejected because of the dress she wore while attending an interview in America for the first time. The reason was that suit was expensive and she bought one for just 50 dollars.
Indra Nooyi feels that, compared to men, women have to work harder in order to prove themselves in this male dominant world of Business.
