Vijay Mallya inherited the liquor business of his father,Vittal Mallya in 1983 but increased it many folds by getting into newer areas like Aviation, Information Technology and leisure and of course the most profitable business in India, Politics .

Many people dub him as the Indian version of Sir Richard Branson (chairman of Virgin group) . In a Country like India where people go haywire over sports (mainly cricket) , he has got his company into various sports like Cricket, Football and also owns the first ever indian team in F-1 racing (Force India) and also has plans to organize the first F-1 Grand prix in India.
Apart from the lavish lifestyle Mallya also has a social worker side , he made a hospital for masses in Bangalore and was also instrumental in successfully bidding for the sword of Tipu Sultan ( the legendary ruler of Mysore).
