Shiv Nadar is the Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of HCL Technologies, a subsidiary of Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL), a firm he co-founded in August 1976. At present HCL the US $ 4.9 Billion Global Enterprise is in a leading position in the IT Industry whose roots extend to 18 countries(US, Japan, Europe, etc.,), employing 55000 professionals. Shiv Nadar is  honoured with the PADMA BHUSHAN AWARD (The third highest in Civilian awards). This award is not just an acknowlegdement of HCL’s many firsts in the technology domain; but also of Shiv Nadar’s efforts in the field of education and to the upliftment of public health in India.

         Prior to HCL, Shiv Nadar, being an engineer, worked for (Delhi Cloth Mills)DCM’s calculator division. After recognising the oppurtunities in IT Industry (At a time when India had a total of 250 computers) Shiv Nadar along with some of his friends figured out that it was feasible to build a Computer and thus they launched HCL in august 1976. His Vision was right. HCL has stayed a true pioneer of Modern computing from designing India’s first PC to working on the Boeing Dreamliner’s Flight Management Systems today. Shiv Nadar was placed in the same league as Bill Gates (Microsoft), Scott McNealy (SUN) and Eckhard Pfeiffer (Compaq), amongst “The Electronic Elite” in a book called “The Giant Killers” written  by Geoffrey James.

               In 1988, Shiv Nadar in US worked hard and developed a strategy to take HCL global. This proved to be successful and led to many people calling the Group as ‘India’s first transnational’ in the IT sphere. In 1987, ELCINA, the body representing the electronic industry in India nominated Shiv Nadar as the Man of the Year. In December 1995, Shiv Nadar was nominated the Dataquest IT Man of the Year. Shiv Nadir has been actively participating in translating his dream to provide “World Class Research Oriented Quality Education at Affordable Price” in India into reality. So in 1996 he started  the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai and later SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering in association with the Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Shiv Nadar is a member of the Executive Board of Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad.
