The release of Tata Nano has attracted a world-wide attention. Even after about a fortnight after the reservations opened for the car, the is an immense demand for it, and it is continuing. The Tata’s promise has become the talk of the common man today.
The car which is priced at about a lakh INR, has not failed to attract immense attraction, which materialised into great bookings all over India. The brand image of Tata, the cheap application costs (about 300/-), ready availability of application forms in SBI branches and Tata showrooms are the additional reasons which contributed towards this. The middle class in India are ready to ‘experiment’ with the new release, since the cost is not really burdensome, and this cost trade-off hasn’t directly reflected much in terms of the requirements of the car, atleast apparently.
Soon after this car release, however, the loss of the car factory to Gujarat has been politicized by the Communist Party as the loss to Bengal because of their rivals Mamata Benerjee, the chief of Trinamool Congress. Mr.Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has been blaming their opponents on all the political campaign rallys for the ‘Nano’ fiasco. Mamata who was initially was on ‘defence’, has vehemently criticized the Communist Party and alleged Tatas that they are launching a political conspiracy against her along with the Communists. She added, “I will not ride in the Nano which has been manufactured with the people’s blood”.
With all this aside, let us hope that Nano meets the expectations of the common man of India. However, we will have to wait atleast for a 10-12 months for that.
